VICTOR HUGO CELEBRATES HIS 221TH BIRTHDAY!

Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 3pm, Victor Hugo celebrates his 221th birthday!

On this occasion, the Café Mulot and the Maison Victor Hugo welcome the actor-director Laurent Schuh for a reading of Ursus Philosophie. A soliloquy from The Man Who Laughs, the absolute masterpiece of Victor Hugo.

"We are all blind people. The miser is a blind man; he sees gold and does not see wealth. The prodigal is a blind man; he sees the beginning and does not see the end. The coquette is a blind woman; she does not see her wrinkles. The scholar is a blind man; he does not see his ignorance. The honest man is blind; he does not see the rascal. The rascal is blind; he does not see God. God is a blind man; the day he created the world, he did not see that the Devil was sticking in it. I am a blind man; I speak and I do not see that you are deaf".

After having brought The Man Who Laughs to stages all over the world in a solo version directed by François Bourgeat and unanimously acclaimed by the critics, Laurent Schuh now makes us rediscover this masterpiece through the prism of Ursus, one of the central characters of the novel, by delivering for the first time a reading of URSUS PHILOSOPHE. A hand-sewn montage that will serve as living material for the creation of a new show to come...

Sunday February 26th at 3pm.
